Matzke, Cathy Elaine -- Vassar, Michigan. Died Sunday, October 9, 2005 at her home. Age 52 years. Cathy was born November 24, 1952 in Saginaw, Michigan, the first child of Mr. and Mrs. Donald and Betty (Callahan) Germain. She and James Matzke were united in marriage on February 4, 1983 in Indianapolis, Indiana. For a time she worked as a waitress at DaVinci's Restaurant in Frankenmuth and she was an active member of the Vassar Eagles Aerie #2380. Cathy enjoyed bowling with James, receiving red roses from him and rearranging the furniture in her home. She and James went everywhere together. Weekend excursions to their cabin in Mio were frequent and they also had the opportunity to vacation in New York, Reno, Louisiana, the Bahamas, Hong Kong and many other places. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 22 years, James; daughter, Jamie Matzke and friend, Jerry Balcer; four stepsons, Jim and wife, Sheila Matzke, Mark and wife, Mary Matzke, Bryan and wife, Stephanie Matzke, Jason and wife, Patti Matzke; a stepdaughter, Sheri Roebuck; 15 step-grandchildren; a step- great-grandson; her mother, Betty Germain; three sisters, Donna and husband, Dan Hoover, Bonnie and husband, Don Gohs, Faye McGeshick; brother, Scott and wife, Leatha Germain; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Cathy was preceded in death by her father, Donald, in January of 2004. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 13, 2005, at the Martin Funeral Home in Vassar. Burial will be in Mio at the Mentor Twp. Cemetery. Family will be present to receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. At 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, family and friends will gather at the funeral home for an Eagles Memorial Service conducted by the Vassar Eagles Aerie #2380. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the Jamie Matzke Family. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Friends may share memories, prayers, and stories with the family at the funeral home and at www.martinfuneralhome.com. Arrangements by Martin Funeral Home in Vassar.
