BIDDEFORD -- John N. Gladu Sr., 58, of Biddeford, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005 at Southern Maine Medical Center. He was born in Portland on April 17, 1947, a son of Joseph Raymond and Elvira Hazel Nelson Gladu and was educated in Portland schools. Mr. Gladu served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam. John had been employed at the Portland school department as a custodian, Maine Rubber Co. in Westbrook and last worked at ABC Cab Company for 12 years, retiring five years ago due to illness. He was a member of the Amvets Post #25. John was an avid Red Sox fan and also enjoyed automobiles. He was very proud of his '78 Lincoln. John was predeceased by a brother, Ronald Gladu in 1979 and by a daughter, Terry Gladu in 1976. Surviving are three daughters, Michelle Carey of Portland, Diana Gladu of Portland, and Tonya Gladu of Biddeford; a son, John N. Gladu Jr., of Biddeford; six grandchildren; four sisters, Joyce Arsenault of Westbrook, Marie Trott and her husband Waldo of Portland, Justina Erazo and her husband Ben of Orlando, Fla., and Linda Grant of Freeport; a brother, Joseph Gladu and his wife Rosa of Chesterfield, Md.; several nieces and nephews. There will be no visiting hours. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, at the Maine Veterans Cemetery Chapel in Augusta. Arrangements are by Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm Street, Biddeford.
