Norman Gaston Grenier, 79, passed away on Oct. 15, 2005, at his home in Apple Valley.Norman was born June 2, 1926, in Waterville, Maine. He entered the U.S. Navy Sept. 6, 1944, and was a gunner’s mate on the ship USS St. Paul. Norman was a survivor of World War II and Pearl Harbor, and was honorably discharged June 22, 1946. He was the third generation from a family of floor-covering installers. After leaving the Navy, he installed floors for the family-owned business, Grenier Floor Covering, in Waterville, Maine, for many years. Norman married his childhood friend and sweetheart, Yvonne, on Feb. 8, 1947, and they stayed married for 58 wonderful years. The couple moved to Downey in 1952. Norman then joined the Floor Covering Local Union #1247 and was a union member until he retired in 1986. He was still a union member when he passed. Norman and his wife moved to Apple Valley in 1993 to be with their five children and great-grandchildren. He was a lifetime member and past commander of the American Legion Post 790 in West Covina, and he was also a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1944 in Hacienda Heights. Norman was a very warm, kind and loving person, always ready to help family, friends and even strangers. Everyone he met loved him dearly and always will. He will be missed by all who knew him.Norman is survived by his beloved wife of 58 wonderful years, Yvonne; brother Marcel Grenier and his wife, Cecile, of Maine; five children, Lewis Grenier and his wife, Terese; Paul Grenier and his wife, Charlene; Connie Williams and her husband, Jeff; Art Grenier and his wife, Michelle; and Diane McLean and her husband, Ken, all of Apple Valley. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, who he loved with all his heart. A graveside memorial service is scheduled to be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Victor Valley Mortuary on 11th Street in Victorville. A reception will immediately follow at the Grenier residence, 23482 Guajome Road in Apple Valley. The family has expressed that the dress attire for the service be casual.
