WINTHROP -- Yvon Francois Xavier Guimont, 84, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2005, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta.He was born in St. Zacharie, Quebec, on July 12, 1921, the son of Diogene and Esther (Cormie) Guimont.Yvon was educated in Canada schools. He went to work in the woods at an early age and continued to do so for most of his working life.He married Denise Pomerleau on May 2, 1956 and, in 1957, they moved to the United States, where they had since resided in Skowhegan and Winthrop. While in Maine, Yvon was employed by Abor Acres and Norwalk Shoe, and retired as a mail carrier at the East Livermore post office.Yvon was a member of St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church and was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.Besides his strong Christian faith, Mr. Guimont's passion in life was his family: his wife, Denise, of nearly 50 years and his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.Yvon was predeceased by his 2-year-old brother, Freddie.He is survived by his wife, Denise Guimont, of Winthrop; his two sons, Dickie Guimont of Winthrop and Roger Guimont and his wife, Carol, of Mexico; his daughter, Tina Sirois and her husband, Anthony, of Monmouth; a half-sister, Peggy Libby, of Kezar Falls; nine grandchildren, Paul Guimont, Veronica Fitzgerald, Scott Guimont and Monica, Angela, Vanessa, Cassandra, Abram and Olivia Sirois; and six great-grandchildren.Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. The Knights of Columbus will be in attendance at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday for a service at the funeral home. A concelebrated Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church, Winthrop, with the Revs. Brian Blanchette, Gilbert Patenaude and Sylvio Levesque officiating.For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Portland Office, 163 Lancaster St., Portland, ME 04101.www.khrfuneralhomes.com
