AVON, OH - James S. Hamel, age 65, of Avon passed away Friday, November 11, 2005 at his home following a short illness. He was born January 24, 1940 in Amherst and has lived in Avon the past 5 years coming from Avon Lake, where he had lived 25 years. Jim served in the Army National Guard and was employed as a business technician for CenturyTel, Lorain, and had retired after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Amherst Eagle’s Club. He had coached youth sports in Avon Lake for about ten years and enjoyed golfing. He is survived by a son, Rick Hamel (Elaina) who is serving in the Army and stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington; 2 step-children, Leslie Lapinski of Amherst and Benjamin Lapinski of Westlake; seven grandchildren, Steven Vitas, David Naelitz, Kateland Naelitz, Alex Naelitz, Michaela Hamel, Herbert Hamel and Kyle Horvatich; 2 sisters, Lois Bailey of Elyria and Shirley Hoover of Amherst; a brother, Jerry Hamel of Alamogordo, New Mexico and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd A. and Bessie (nee Schellhouse) Hamel. Memorial services to be held at Lake Shore United Methodist Church, 33119 Electric Blvd. Avon Lake on Monday November 14 at 11:30am. Rev. Nancy S. Manner, pastor, will officiate. Cremation will follow by Busch Crematory and burial will be private at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst. Memorials may be forwarded to the Hospice of Palliative Care Partners of Ohio, 2500 East 22nd St. Cleveland, OH 44115-3204. -- JAMES S.
