DiGIACINTO, DOMENICO G. "JOHN" - Age 61, at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Wednesday, November 24, 2004, John passed away peacefully in the arms of his beloved wife Irene, daughter Suzanne and son Andrew. Born in Fredericton, he was the son of the late Nicola "Nick" and Nicoletta (Pelusi) DiGiacinto. John spent most of his life in Fredericton and was a star basketball player for Fredericton High School in the early 1960's. He worked for many years at Mazuca's Variety Store in Fredericton and was very active in the community. He was a 4th Degree Knight, Knights of Columbus Council #1942 for almost 30 years serving at one point as The Faithful Navigator. Known to many as "The Bingo Guy", John often donated his time to organizing the charity bingos, and the dinners. He was also a volunteer for "Bowl for Millions", the YW-YMCA and also served as the Head Usher for seating dignitaries at the opening of the Legislature for 30 years. John was a wonderful father, a faithful and loving husband, and a generous and compassionate friend to all who knew him. Special thanks to his caregivers Gail MacQueen, Heather Fleming, Debbie Dicks and Jillian Jones-Reid, by whom he was tenderly and lovingly cared for daily, as well as, the dedicated and caring extra-mural hospital team who were with John and his family every step of the way. Surviving in addition to wife Irene nee Matchett, (formerly Emery) DiGiacinto are children Terry Emery Jr. (Jean Graham), Fredericton, NB., Suzanne (Barry McLean), Edmonton, AB., Andrew DiGiacinto (Kim), Halifax, NS., grandsons Liam and Nicholas, special granddaughter Josie Lyn Emery, brothers-in-law George Matchett, Saint John, NB., and Frank Matchett, Coquitlam, BC., as well as, his brother, sisters, and children from his first marriage. Along with his parents, John was also predeceased by Irene's daughter Margaret Anne Emery, mother-in-law Margaret Matchett, brother-in-law Jackie Maples, and sister-in-law Patricia Anne McCrackin. Resting at Castle "Fallsview" Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave., Saint John, NB (634-1701) with visitation on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 27, 2004 at 11:00 AM in St. Ann's Catholic Church, (Simpson Drive) Saint John, NB.
