Paul Emile LANDRY

NEW BEDFORD -- Paul Emile Landry, 92, of New Bedford died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005, at Sacred Heart Home after a brief illness. He was the widower of Lauretta (Philibert) Landry, who died May 1; they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in November 2004. Born in St. Georges de Champlain, Quebec, he was the son of the late George and Helen (Plourde-Dube) Landry. He lived in Fall River, New Bedford and surrounding towns, as well as Parkersburg, W.Va. He was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church in Dartmouth until he moved to Sacred Heart Home. As a young man, he was a sewing machine mechanic in the textile industry. He was a general manager of Economy Blouse in New Bedford and Pennsboro, W.Va., and Eastern Sportswear in New Bedford until he retired. He was a 32nd degree mason and a member of the Wamsutta Lodge; he was recognized for 50 years of service on Aug. 28 at a ceremony attended by his Masonic brothers and family members. He served in the Navy on the U.S.S. Phelps and was a salvage diver and diving trainer in Dakar, Senegal. He helped recommission 14 ships of various flags immobilized at Dakar. One of his proudest moments was when he was allowed to accompany an admiral to the Vatican to have an audience with the pope. He enjoyed going to Florida to visit his son and daughter-in-law and going to Las Vegas and Mohegan Sun with his daughter and son-in-law. He enjoyed time with his grandson. Mr. Landry was loved by many and had a special love for children. He was always referred to as a gentleman. Survivors include a son, Paul E. Landry Jr., and his wife, Patricia, of Beverly Hills, Fla.; a daughter, Jacqueline Landry Scott, and her husband, Barry, of New Bedford; a sister, Yvette Moraux of Acushnet; three grandsons; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Joseph Landry, Adrien Landry and Jeanne Amaral. His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St. Burial with military honors will follow in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
