George Milton LANGELLIER

George Milton Langellier, Sr. was born on January 30, 1922 in Beaverville, Illinois to Anna Mary Fortier and Phillip Henry Langellier as the fifth of seven children. He grew up in his hometown among the farms and factories that once dotted the area south of Chicago. A graduate of St. Patrick's High School where he lettered in several varsity sports, Langellier especially had a talent and passion for playing baseball. In fact, he received his lifelong nickname "Sub" as a child. He originally was the youngest player and tenth member on his neighborhood baseball team. He became the substitute or "sub" when one of the other players, including his two older brothers, were not available. And like both of his brothers, he joined the U.S. armed forces during World War II. Spending nearly three years in the Pacific with the Twenty-fourth Infantry Division Langellier rose to the rank of staff sergeant. Among his decorations for service were the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, and Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with three battle stars. After the war Langellier returned to Illinois where he married the former Norma Jean Winters on November 23, 1950. In 1956, he and his family relocated to Tucson where he continued his trade in the sheet metal and heating-cooling industry until retirement over 25 years ago. Langellier passed quietly with his family at home on December 19, 2005. He is survived by wife, Norma; their son, George M. Langellier, Jr., and sister, Phyllis McIntyre of Tucson and Doreen Regnier of Washburn, Wisconsin. Viewing will be from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. with a scripture service following at 7:00 p.m. to be held at ABBEY FUNERAL CHAPEL, 3435 N. 1st Ave on Thursday, December 22. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on December 23, at 9:00 a.m. at Saints Peter and Paul Parish church followed by internment at Holy Hope Cemetery.
