Mary E. LANGTRY

SALEM, N.H. — Mary E. (Langtry) LaPlante, RN, age 88, of Salem, N.H., passed away, Friday, May 27, 2005, at the Salemhaven Nursing Home, Salem, N.H.A resident of Salem, N.H., since 1955, she and her husband Paul lived on Old Rockingham Rd. Most recently she resided at Greystone Farm in Salem. She was born in Lawrence, Mass., where she grew up and attended schools and graduated from St. Mary's High School. She later graduated from the nursing program at the old Carney Hospital in Boston in 1936.Mrs. LaPlante worked as a registered nurse for the Hale Hospital in Haverhill, Mass., during the 1940's. She was a charge nurse for the Lawrence General Hospital on Ward E, where she single-handedly cared for 25 or more patients at a time. She later worked for the family owned L&M Bakery in Lawrence.She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salem. She was vice regent of CDA/Catholic Daughters of America. She had many friends at the Salem Senior Center and was one of the volunteers that helped manage the lunch program for other seniors.She was predeceased by her husband Paul E. LaPlante. She is survived by two sons, Paul E. Jr. and his wife Johanne LaPlante of Florida, and John and his wife Susan LaPlante of Salem, N.H.; three grandchildren, Marc and his wife Kristen LaPlante of Salem, N.H., Debi LaPlante and her husband David Forbes of Malden, Mass., and Christopher LaPlante and his wife Autumn Tyr-Salvia of California; three great-grandchildren, Austin and Ashley LaPlante, and Gavin Forbes; and several nieces and nephews.ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, June 1, 2005, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, Salem, N.H. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem, N.H. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, May 31, 2005, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, N.H.
