LA PLANTE, Dr. Marilyn J. -- Gobles, MI -- Died January 14, 2005 at her residence in Gobles. Dr. LaPlante was born February 7, 1939 in Sioux City, IA, the daughter of Herman and Loretta (Woolridge) LaPlante. She received her B.A. from the University of Iowa, M.A. from the University of North Carolina and her PhD from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. She taught high school before accepting a professorial position at Earlham College, where she later served as Assistant Provost. In 1979, she became Associate Provost at Kalamazoo College. In 1984, she was named Dean of Students and in 1997, she was named the Vice President of Experiential Education. She retired in June of 2000. Dr. LaPlante was preceded in death by her father Herman LaPlante. Surviving are her mother Loretta Vlaanderen of Sioux City, IA; 2 brothers and 1 sister, James (Mardella) LaPlante of Fountain Valley, CA, Cheryl (Boyd) Bahney of Sioux City, IA and Dr. Douglas LaPlante of Dickinson, ND; several nieces and nephews; other survivors include, Carol Stamm, Edna Stamm, Stephanie Stamm, Doug (Vonda) Stamm, Jim (Brenna) Stamm. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 o'clock Tuesday in Stetson Chapel at Kalamazoo College.
