Leslie Remi LAVERGNE

Leslie Remi Lavergne, a resident of Baton Rouge and native of Port Allen, died on Friday morning, Dec. 23, 2005, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Bluebonnet. He was 80, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the retired director of financial aid and scholarships for LSU for 24 years. Visiting at Ollie Steele Burden Manor on Tuesday, Dec. 27, from 11 a.m. until religious service at 11:30 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Jeff Lefebvre. Interment in Grace Memorial Park. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Jan and Mike Portwood of Lancaster, Penn., and Susan and Charles "Chuck" Rigdon Jr. of Lawrence, Ga.; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Carmen Lavergne of Baton Rouge; and five grandchildren, Phillip Portwood, Jeana Rose Rigdon, Caroline Rigdon, Wesley Rigdon and Hayes Lavergne. He was preceded in death by his parents, Remi and Eliska Hurst Lavergne; and his wife, Barbara Jean Dupont Lavergne. He was a graduate of Port Allen High School and LSU. He was a teacher at Baton Rouge High School and Melville High School and was the first general manager and treasurer of Baton Rouge Teachers Federal Credit Union. He served as a member of the Louisiana Student Financial Assistance Commission and Louisiana Tuition Trust Authority. He was a student loan marketing representative for USA Funds and Bank One. He was past president of the Louisiana Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, financial director at St. Joseph's Seminary College and was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity.
