ROCHESTER — Paul H. Legere of 26 High St., died Monday, Dec. 26, 2005, at his home surrounded by his loving family.He was born in Somerville, Mass., and was the son of Napoleon and Marie (Theriault) Legere.He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and Korea serving from 1947 to 1950 and from 1952 to 1954. He held the rank of machinist mate and was assigned to the submarine USS Bank. While in the service, he completed his high school education.After his discharge from the service, he went to work with the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard serving for 27 years and retiring in 1977. In 1985, he and his wife, Rita, moved to Micco, Fla., for 18 years and returned to Rochester this past spring after declining health to be near family and friends.He was a life member of the American Legion Post 47 of Rollinsford and was a longtime member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Micco. He was proud of his military service with the Navy and was also a member of the Submarine Veterans of American, Snug Harbor Base.He loved his grandchildren, they were his joy, and he also loved fishing, hunting and gardening.Family members include his wife of 52 years, Rita (Jacques) Legere of Rochester; his five children, Mike Legere and his companion, Susan, of New Durham, Judy Brunell and her companion, Tom, of Berwick, Maine, Paula Francoeur and her husband, Larry, of Somersworth, Suzy St. Laurent and her husband, Gary, of Berwick, Maine, Sherry Antman and her husband, Mark, of Boca Raton, Fla. Other family members include his two sisters, Wilma Leaver of Dover and Bella Briand and her companion, Joe, of Barefoot Bay Fla.; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.He was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph and Aldef Legere and by his children, Cheryl Legere in 1959 and Thomas Paul Legere in 2002.Calling hours at Bernier Funeral Home, 49 South St., Somersworth, will be on Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Martin Catholic Church, West High and Maple Street, Somersworth.
