SALEM — Gail L. (Letarte) Tompkins, 61, died unexpectedly on Sunday morning, March 20, 2005, at her home. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Cecile (LeBlanc) Letarte. Born and raised in Beverly, she and her family moved to Salem in 1952. In 1962, Mrs. Tompkins joined the Marine Corps and served her enlistment in the United States.After finishing her service, Mrs. Tompkins worked as a switchboard operator for Sylvania for 14 years and for Hunt Hospital in Danvers for 11 years. After the closing of Hunt Hospital, she worked for AT&T in Malden. She is survived by a sister and her husband, Carol and Robert Roy of Beverly; a nephew, Jeffrey Roy of Norfolk; two nieces, Julie Nardone of Rowley and Lisa Demeule of Peabody; and grandnieces, grandnephews, aunts, uncles and many cousins. She was predeceased by her sister, Claire Letarte; and a nephew, Richard Roy. --- TOMPKINS — In Salem, March 20, 2005, Gail L. (Letarte) Tompkins, 61, of Salem. Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral Mass on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, New Balch Street, Beverly. There will not be visiting hours.
