Marcotte, Charlotte -- Ann Arbor, MI -- Age 65, died suddenly Saturday, July 30, 2005, participating in one of the activities she loved, riding her bicycle with a friend. Charlotte was born on April 19, 1940 and grew up in Detroit and Southfield, MI. Charlotte graduated from Southfield High School, married, and raised three sons. She earned a degree in Elementary Education at Michigan State University; taught third grade at Spencer Elementary School in Brighton, MI and went on to complete two Master Degrees in education. After her retirement from teaching, she moved to Ann Arbor,a community she enjoyed because of its vitality. She worked for Eastern Michigan University as a supervisor of student teachers placed in the Ann Arbor schools. She was an active participant in the Ann Arbor Bicycle Touring Society and Ann Arbor Ski Club for many years. She also enjoyed membership at the Washtenaw Recreation Center, a local book club, and the tango dancing community, particularly at the Pittsfield Grange. She was a world traveler and a world bicyclist. She had ridden her bicycle over practically the entire European continent repeatedly joining German friends in summer touring. For the past three years, she journeyed to Buenos Aires, Argentina to tour and practice the Argentine tango. Because of her love of tango, she was taking Spanish lessons. During winters she was up north cross-country skiing with the Ann Arbor Ski Club. Additionally, Charlotte was involved in crafts from card making to knitting, photography, computers, cook ing, kayaking, camping and many other pursuits. She was an active, vital, interested, and interesting person who was dearly loved and respected. Charlotte Marcotte is survived by her sons, Dennis, 45 of Barcelona, Spain; Kenneth, 43 of Edison, New Jersey; Steve, 40 of Ann Arbor; sisters, Janice Zupan of Manhattan, NY; Made lyn Zupan of Brooklyn, NY; Judy (Charles) Hickson of Belfast, Ireland; her brother James (Carole) of Pleasant Ridge, MI; and her beloved ten year old granddaughter Anna; as well as all her dear friends, fellow teachers and students here and abroad. Her much loved parents Ruby and John Zupan are deceased. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 4 at Muehlig Funeral Chapel (403 S. Fourth Ave, Ann Arbor), with visiting from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and on Wednesday 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and at 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Metro Detroit & SE Michigan Chapter, 24359 Northwestern Highway, #225, Southfield, MI 48075 Published in the Ann Arbor News on MLive.com from 8/1/2005 - 8/2/2005
