Rita Elizabeth MCKENNEY

DOVER — Rita Elizabeth (McKenney) Aube, 78, a longtime resident of Dover, died at her home, Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005 after a brief illness. She married J. Bertrand Aube at St. Mary's Church, Dover in 1951 and remained his wife for over 50 years until his death this October.Born in Dover, N.H. in 1927, she was the daughter of the late Gladys Mae (Hall) McKenney and Arthur James McKenney. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1944 and Dover High School in 1945. Although her first employment was in a weapons factory during World War II, after high school she started work at the Dover Telephone Office where she was employed from 1945 through 1954. She was a loving mother who enjoyed cooking for large gatherings of her children and friends. She was an ardent reader who enjoyed contemporary fiction novels which she subsequently passed along to family, friends or charities. She encouraged a lifelong love of learning in her children and took classes as an adult in such eclectic studies as oil painting, intellectual acuity, ballroom dancing and ceramics. In her later years, she traveled, enthusiastically visiting Ireland, Germany and Italy in addition to U.S. locales. She leaves behind three sons, Robert Arthur Aube of Beverly, Mass.; Michael Albert Aube of Grand Rapids, Mich., and James Andrew Aube of Farmington, N.H.; and two daughters, Marianne Chojnicki of Dover, N.H. and Jane Aube Caruso of Falmouth, Mass. She also leaves 11 grandchildren, Elizabeth Aube; Christopher Aube, Melissa Aube, Jenna Kramer, Bryan Aube, Jonathan Rajeski, Ashten Chojnicki, Elyssa Chojnicki, Beatrice Caruso, Carmen Caruso and Daniel Caruso as well as two great grandchildren, Sean Links and Quinton Kramer. She also leaves three brothers, Arthur McKenney, Richard McKenney and John McKenney; three sisters, Kathleen McKenney, Mary McKenney, Ann Marie Robichaud, all of Dover. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Alicia Wentworth. Calling hours will be Tuesday, Dec. 27, from 6-9 p.m. at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Church, the corner of Chestnut and Third Street, Dover, with the Rev. Fritz Cerullo OSA, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery on Dover Point Road in Dover. The family requests memorial donations be made to St. Mary Church, 25 Third street, Dover NH 03820.
