Harvey J. Mercil, 90, Villa St. Vincent Apartments, Crookston, MN, died Thursday, June 9, 2005 at the Lamplighter Manor, Detroit Lakes, MN, where he has resided for the past 3 months. Harvey was born in Gentilly, MN, July 31, 1914, to late Amie and Delia (Cote) Mercil of Gentilly, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Gentilly. Harvey grew up and attended school in Gentilly. In his early years, Harvey was a cheese-maker in Brooks and Red Lake Falls, MN and also worked for Wilcox Furniture, Red Lake Falls. In 1961, he purchased and operated the Deep Rock Gas Station in Red Lake Falls, MN, which later became Phillips 66 and then Mobil. On October 20, 1936, Harvey was united in marriage to Mabel Cota. Survived by daughter, Diane (Seidl) and husband, Louis, Virginia Beach, VA; two sons, Darrel and wife, Susan, Pelican Rapids, MN and Wayne and wife, Kathy, Fargo, ND; 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and sister, Maria (Reopelle) and husband, Morris, Thief River Falls, MN. Harvey was preceded in death by wife, Mabel; two grandchildren, Keith and Kevin Seidl; parents and sister, Maybelle (LaChance). Visitation will be 4 - 8 PM, Sunday, June 12, 2005 at Cathedral of The Immaculate Conception, Crookston with a 7 PM prayer service and for one hour prior to services, Monday. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Monday, June 13, 2005 at Cathedral of The Immaculate Conception, Crookston. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Crookston.
