Nick Morin, 81, a lifelong resident of Gig Harbor, passed away November 5th, 2005. Nick was a commercial fisherman and marine carpenter throughout his life. He served his country in the Navy aboard the USS Bergen in the Pacific during World War II. Upon his return he continued with the family tradition of commercial fishing by working with his brother as owner/operators of the boat Defiance. Nick was active in the community as a member of the Gig Harbor Fishermen's Civic Club, The Fraternal Order of the Eagles, and the American Legion. He was a sports fan and through the years liked to follow his son and grandson's sporting events. For recreation he enjoyed years of sport fishing outside of Gig Harbor with his family and friends. Nick was preceded in death by his wife Margaret (Karuza) of 54 years. Surviving family members include his son Martin Morin and wife Linda, Gig Harbor; grandsons Jason Morin, Seattle, Erik Morin and his son Cole, Gig Harbor; sister Eunice Vlahovich, Tacoma, and brother Martin Morin Jr., Gig Harbor. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 10, at St Nicholas Catholic Church, Gig Harbor. Interment at Haven of Rest Memorial Park, Hwy 16, Gig Harbor. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Franciscan Foundation / Kidney Dialysis, PO Box 1502, Tacoma, WA 98401. Published in the News Tribune (Tacoma) on 11/8/2005.
