Winifred Frances MURPHY

Winifred Frances Knox Murphy Molis Demanche, 87, of Gladewater, Texas, died Dec. 1, 2005. Mrs. Demanche was born March 31, 1918, in Belfast, Ireland, daughter of William and Letitia Murphy. She sailed with her family to Boston at the age of 11. She raised her three children on a farm atop Federal Hill in Hollis, and later in downtown Hollis and then in Nashua. She lived in Nashua for about 36 years before moving to the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Gladewater 12 years ago.She the widow of John George Molis and Ernest Joseph Demanche.Mrs. Demanche, also known as "Grandma Winnie," was, at different times, an Irish step-dancer in team with her brother, a homemaker, caregiver, crew cook, veterinarian and general farmhand, a professional seamstress, and a White Oak (Texas) Red Hatter enjoying a hard-earned retirement.She was a Catholic.Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Christopher and Jeanette Molis of Nashua, and William and Noreen Molis of Amherst; a daughter and son-in-law, Winnie and Jeff Newman of Gladewater; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Christopher William Murphy of Norwood, Mass.The Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater, Texas, is in charge of arrangements.
