Maurice Yvan Paquette, 76, of Colebrook, died on Sunday morning, October 23, 2005 at the Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital. Mr. Paquette was born on September 8, 1929 in East Hereford, Quebec, son of the late Philibert and Yvonne (Ganger) Paquette. Mr. Paquette was raised in East Colebrook and worked as a young man on several different farms as a farm hand. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on July 3, 1953. He returned to the North Country and worked for his uncle, Germain Beloin, as a farm hand and harvesting Christmas trees. In 1961 he was married to Sandra (Drew) Paquette and began raising a family. His work history included owning his own salvaging business, farming, and driving truck. His last place of employment was with Nash's Farm Equipment for approximately 15 years. He was a member of the Mohawk Grange for 58 years and the Northland American Legion Post #47 in Canaan. His interests included deep-sea fishing, camping, playing cribbage, horseshoes, salvaging and dancing. He enjoyed visiting with friends and watching his son Michael race in Groveton, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family. Mr. Paquette is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Paquette of Colebrook; three children, Michael Paquette and his fiancée Arlene Kelsea of Pittsburg, Melanie Rancloes and her husband David of Stewartstown, and Randall Paquette and his wife Melanie of Colebrook; two brothers, Herman Paquette of Colebrook and Paul Paquette of Canaan; three sisters, Rejeanne Gilbert of Colebrook, Suzanne Roy of Canaan, and Monique Marquis of Enfield, Conn.; six grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. At the request of Mr. Paquette, calling hours will be private. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday morning, October 25 at St. Brendan's Catholic Church, with The Reverend Albert Bellefeuille as celebrant. An interment service followed at the Fairview Cemetery in North Stratford. Expressions of sympathy in Mr. Paquette's memory may be made to the Northland American Legion Post #47 in Canaan. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Jacoby, Newman & Jenkins Funeral Home in Colebrook. Condolences may be offered to the family on-line by going to www.jacobyfuneralhome.com.
