Mary PILON

MORRISVILLE, Vt. -- Mary Pilon, a fifth-grade teacher for 25 years in Galway, died on Friday, June 10, at her home in Morrisville, Vt. Born on April 23, 1919, Mrs. Pilon grew up in Johnson, Vt. She was a graduate of the Johnson State Teachers College and the State University of New York at Oneonta. Her teaching career began at the age of 19, teaching eight grades in a one-room schoolhouse in North Hyde Park, Vt. In 1947, the family moved to Galway, where Mrs. Pilon resumed teaching in 1949. A devoted teacher, she enjoyed corresponding with her many students over the years.After retiring in 1974, Mr. and Mrs. Pilon traveled extensively. After the death of Mr. Pilon in December 1988, Mrs. Pilon retired to her native Vermont, where she enjoyed the company of a wide circle of friends and relatives.She survived her husband, Gerard, who was the town supervisor in Galway from 1959 to 1965. She is also survived by two sons, Roger of Bethesda, Md., and Bruce of Highlands Ranh, Colo.; her daughter, Lorraine of Worcester, Vt.; and five grandchildren.A memorial will be held in Morrisville in early August.
