Louis Joseph POITRA

POITRA, LOUIS JOSEPH August 17, 1955 - August 11, 2005 We lost Louie too soon. Born in Coos Bay in 1955, his heart stopped just a week short of his 50th birthday. Louis Poitra's death was a shocking blow to his family and friends; especially devastating to his mother, Romaine McIntire, his younger brother and sisters, Perry Poitra, Jamie Robinson and Jolene Poitra, and to his stepfather, Don. Even though he was anything but a rich man, Lou's personality was nevertheless "to the manor born." He read voraciously and became the family's opinionated expert in travel, art, cooking and all manner of trendiness. He was our sophisticate, with humor. Great in the garden and the kitchen, Lou did love fine food. He excelled at baking delicious desserts while insisting that only homemade ice cream would do as an accompaniment. All of us knew him as a passionate character whose temperament would regularly swing from mercurial to exasperating to serene. But mostly, he was fun. When he was in his social mode, his breathless enthusiasms were infectious. Lou could charm the socks off anyone! He loved his family and friends. Many of those, who loved him back, will celebrate his life Saturday, Aug. 20, 2005, at Jolene's home in Woodburn. They will always remember Lou Poitra as a special, one-of-a-kind, irreplaceable personality. Published in The Oregonian on 8/20/2005.
