Rev. Raymond R. Pomaville, O.M.I. February 15, 1929 September 28, 2005 Father Raymond Richard Pomaville, OMI, died at Oblate Madonna Residence, San Antonio, Texas, on September 28, 2005. He was 76 years old. Born on February 15, 1929 in Linwood Michigan, he was the son of Lawrence and Delia Seymour Pomaville. Fr. Pomaville entered the Oblate Congregation after high school. He made his religious profession as a Missionary Oblate of Mary Immaculate on May 31, 1949 at Saint Peter's Noviate, Mission Texas. Following studies in philosophy and theology at De Mazenod Scholasticate (Oblate School of Theology), Fr. Pomaville was ordained a priest on May 31, 1955 in San Fernando Cathedral by Archbishop Robert E. Lucey of San Antonio. In Texas, Fr. Pomavillle served at parishes in Houston, Falfurrias, Mc Allen, Brady, San Benito, and San Antonio (St. Mary's Downtown Church). He also served in parish ministry in Louisiana and Colorado. Fr. Pomaville was a prison chaplain a number of years with the Texas Department of Corrections. Other assignments included Associate Director of the Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle, San Juan, Texas and Chaplain at Christus-Santa Rosa Hospital, San Antonio. His pastoral ministry was characterized by a special care for the needs of young people. His jovial attitude made him a confidant of teenagers and young adults. A keen insight into the human condition, with a sense of compassion, brought relief to many troubled souls. He brought joy to the occasion of weddings and comfort to those who suffered bereavement. Survivors include two sisters, Vivian O'Laughlin, and Chris Martin, one brother, Tom Pomaville, and a number of nieces and nephews. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm, Friday, September 30th, Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, October 1, 2005. Both services will be at the Chapel at Oblate Madonna Residence, 5722 Blanco Rd, San Antonio, Texas. Burial will be at the Oblate Cemetery. Arrangements by: The Angelus Funeral Home.
