Jacqueline Margaret POWELL

Jacqueline Margaret Powell Bergeron Thompson, 78, of Fort Myers passed away Monday, October 31. She was born January 29, 1927 in Paris, France to Charles Kendrick and Elsie Powell.A local resident for 35 years in Fort Myers. In her younger years she resided in Neuilly Sur Seine a suburb of Paris, France. During WWII she relocated to England with her family and stayed until the end of the war. She returned to France where she worked as a Secretary for the Paris office of Max Factor. In 1949 she traveled by boat to New York and settled in Boston. She found the winters bitterly cold and within a short time traveled by train to Miami, FL and took up permanent residence. She married Leonard Bergeron in 1950 and had five children. In 1973 she married the late William S. Thompson. She relocated to Fort Myers in 1968.She attended Edison Community College, Fort Myers and also Western Carolina University in Cullowee, NC. She was also active in the local real estate market working for Callie Boyette Realty and Chuck Bundschu Real Estate. She was very active in her garden with prize winning orchids and roses. She enjoyed traveling, some of her travels included trips to Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, Mesa Verde, San Francisco, Hawaii and Yucatan Mexico. She spoke several languages which enhanced her ability to converse with the people in Mexico. She also volunteered teaching Haitians English as a second language.She is survived by her children Michelle Chitwood, Gainesville, FL; Monique Bergeron, Gainesville, FL; Michael Bergeron, Kemah, TX: Wade Bergeron, Fort Myers and Ginette Roe, Gainesville, FL and ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.A memorial service will be held Thursday, Nov. 3, 11:00 AM at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers. In lieu of flowers, Jackie had requested that donations be made to a charity of their choice in her memory.
