Irene Evelyn PRESCOTT

NEW BEDFORD -- Irene Evelyn (Prescott) Brodeur, 96, of New Bedford died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. She was the widow of Arthur Brodeur Sr., who died in 1983. Born in Gloucester, she was the daughter of the late George A. and Margaret A. (Tobin) Prescott. She lived in New Bedford most of her life and was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Following the passing of her sons -- Richard in 1986 and Arthur in 1995 -- she was lovingly attended to and cared for by her daughters-in-law, Joyce (Freitas) Brodeur and Miriam Brodeur. Her final years were spent at Hallmark Nursing Home. Mrs. Brodeur was a gentle, loving woman who was always quick with a smile. She had a personable way about her that made her well-liked by anyone who met her. Survivors include her daughters-in-law; nine grandchildren, Brian Brodeur of Oregon, Michael Brodeur, James Brodeur, Daniel Carreiro, Gary Brodeur and Joyce Brodeur, all of New Bedford, Phillip Brodeur of Brockton, Shannon Cartledge of Kissimmee, Fla., and Jodie Medeiros of Rochester; 14 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Arthur S. Brodeur Jr. and Richard A. Brodeur; and the sister of the late Vina Comeau, Grace (Prescott) Comeau, Ella Comeau, Howard Prescott and Everett Prescott. Her funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. tomorrow in Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
