MISSOULA - Katherine Eleanor Lamoreaux, 85, of Missoula, passed away Friday, Aug. 26, 2005, at St. Patrick Hospital.There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, at Garden City Funeral Home with a reception to follow at the funeral home. Pastor Doug Gardener will be officiating.Katy was born Aug. 31, 1919, in Crary, N.D., to Hugh and Cecelia (Thumm) Rice. She was raised in the North Dakota area before moving to Missoula in 1938. She lived in California for a short period during World War II while her husband fought in the war. She returned to Missoula after the war where she lived until her death.She met and married her husband James "Bud" in 1938. He preceded her in death in 1997. He has been very much missed.Katy worked for the Forest Service and other government agencies for almost 40 years, retiring in 1976.Katy was a big supporter of the Humane Society and the Rolling Dog Ranch; she loved her dog Dugan, who was her treasured longtime companion and who survives her. She also enjoyed painting, Indian beadwork and soapstone carving, and had a love for Irish water spaniels.She will be remembered for her sense of humor.She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Bud and a brother, Harvey Rice, who was killed in World War II.She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Eileen and Gene Allen of Lolo; nephew Robert Allen of Adelaide Australia; niece Judy and Joe Durnbaugh of Lewiston, Idaho; grandnieces Amie Durnbaugh and Erin Culbert; and grandnephew Patrick Allen.Those wishing to can make contributions to any chapter of the Humane Society or to the Rolling Dog Ranch, 400 Rolling Dog Ranch Lane, Ovando, MT 59854, in lieu of flowers.Arrangements have been entrusted to Garden City Funeral Home.
