GILFORD — Wilfred E. Rivard, 87, of 193 Intervale Road, Gilford, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia on Friday, Aug. 5, 2005.He was born Dec. 27, 1917 in Huntington, Mass., the son of Louise C. (Ferron) and Nelson J. Rivard, Sr. He was raised in Milford, Conn. where he attended local schools and graduated from Milford High School. He served in the U. S. Army with Battery C 601st Anti-Aircraft Artillery Ground Battalion during World War II. He was stationed in England, Belgium, France and Germany. While in Antwerp, he served with the Anti-Aircraft Unit in the "Battle of the buzz-bomb" (V-1 rockets).He worked for American Chain & Cable Co., of Bridgeport, Conn. for many years before moving to Gilford seven years ago. He enjoyed camping, hiking, reading, carpentry and tending to his house and yard. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mildred (Shea) Rivard, of Gilford; two sons, Glenn E. Rivard, of Bristol, Conn., and Robert W. Rivard of Lebanon, Conn.; a daughter, Elaine F. Shea, of Gilford; seven grandchildren, Jeff Rivard, Fred Rivard, Becky Rivard, Lisa DeLeon and Dan, Joe and Barbara Shea; two great grandchildren, D. J. Shea and Kaleb DeLeon; a brother, Alfred Rivard, of Palm Bay, Fla. and several nephews and nieces. There will be no calling hours or funeral service.
