Marion V. LaVelle, 86, of Eau Claire died Sunday morning, September 11, 2005, at Sacred Heart Hospital.Marion was born on January 23, 1919, in Eau Claire, Wis., to Felix and Anna Roberge. She attended St. Patrick’s Elementary and High School, and graduated from Eau Claire teachers college in 1941. She taught high school English at Elmwood, Wis.; and, in 1943, she became an aircraft communicator for the Civil Aeronautic Administration at Flint, Mich., and Madison, Wis. While working at Truax Field in Madison, she met Sergeant James F. LaVelle, and they were married on January 27, 1945. She returned to Eau Claire where she became a housewife and mother to five sons. In 1968, Marion returned to Wisconsin State University and earned a degree in special education. She then taught for the Eau Claire Area School District until her retirement in 1981.Marion loved the theatre, and was a talented actress with the Eau Claire Playhouse Players during her college years. She received a scholarship to the Lakeshore Theatre Colony in Plymouth, Mass., acted with the Radio Drama Workshop in Milwaukee, Wis., and worked with several theatre groups in Chicago, Ill.Marion was a charter member of St. Olaf Parish, and had a strong Christian faith throughout her life.Always interested in news, politics and world events, Marion was an avid reader with many interests, and her filled bookshelves attest to that fact.A loving, caring and generous mother and grandmother, she is survived by her five sons, James N. (Ellen), Patrick (Vicki), Daniel (Cynthia) and Raymond, all of Eau Claire, and Michael (Kim) of Onalaska; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Sister Madelon M. Roberge, O.S.B., of St. Cloud, Minn.; and close friend, Ken Smith.She was preceded in death by her husband, James F. LaVelle; infant daughter, Barbara Ann; brother, Kenneth; and sister, Irene.During a serious illness in 1995, Marion almost single-handedly willed herself well. And her strength, courage and love of life were an inspiration to her family and all those around her. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.Mass of Christian burial for Marion will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 15, 2005, at St. Olaf Catholic Church with the Reverend Frank Corradi officiating. There will be a visitation two hours prior to Mass at the church. Entombment will be in Calvary Mausoleum, Eau Claire.Prock Funeral Home is serving the family.
