Paul Richardson ROUILLARD

SARATOGA SPRINGS AND GLENS FALLS -- Paul Richardson Rouillard, 80, formerly of East Avenue in Saratoga Springs and Horicon Avenue in Glens Falls, died on Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.Since the year 2000, he has resided at the Fort Hudson Nursing Home in Fort Edward.Born on Aug. 12, 1925, in Saratoga Springs, he was the son of the late Rev. Irving and Mary K. Rouillard. The Rev. Rouillard was a former rector of Bethesda Episcopal Church in Saratoga Springs.Paul was a graduate of Saratoga Springs High School and Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H. During his college years, Paul was captain of the crew and rowed in the Henley Regatta in England, and was president of his fraternity, Phi Delta.While serving in the U.S. Navy, he flew an F-4 Corsair and survived a mid-air collision.On July 28, 1951, he married Dorothy Cowles at the First Presbyterian Church in Glens Falls.Paul began his career at the Glens Falls Insurance Company and later retired as a vice president from the Adirondack Trust Company in Saratoga Springs. After his retirement, Paul was secretary and treasurer of the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in Saratoga Springs. While living in Saratoga Springs, Paul was a 'barbershopper' with the 'Hum-dingers' of the Racing City Chorus and a member of the Saratoga Springs Rotary Club. He was also on the Board of Directors of the Northway AAA, a founder of the Saratoga Springs YMCA and a longtime member of the Saratoga Springs Golf and Polo Club.Paul had a great love of the ocean and especially enjoyed spending time at Drakes Island in Maine. He also liked to golf, play tennis, swim and body surf. Paul loved to be near the water and at one time was a lifeguard.Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his three brothers, Warren, Granville and Lawrence Rouillard.Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Dorothy (Cowles) Rouillard of Glens Falls; his daughters, Susan Rouillard and her fiancé, John Gallup, of Fort Edward, Wendy Clarke of Glens Falls; Joanie Clark and her husband, Timothy, of Queensbury; his grandchildren, Katie Vinton, and her husband, Anthony, of Berlin, Vt, John Clarke and Christine Clarke, both of Glens Falls; his great-grandchildren, Leah Allura Vinton and Brendan Paul Vinton, both of Berlin, Vt; his sister, Mary K. Rouillard of Milford, Conn.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call on from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Carleton Funeral Home, 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls.A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Bethesda Episcopal Church, 41 Washington Ave. in Saratoga Springs, with Father Thomas Parke, rector, officiating.Burial will follow at Glens Falls Cemetery on Bay Street in Glens Falls.In lieu of flowers, Paul's family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Capital District Chapter, 85 Watervliet Ave., Albany, NY 12206-2083 or the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220, or the charity of one's choice.
