James F. SASSEVILLE

James F. Sasseville Artist and cartoonist James F. Sasseville died at his home in Los Altos Nov. 30, aged 78. Born Aug. 28, 1927, in Mpls., MN, he graduated from the Minneapolis College of Art in 1948. He married Helga Leshzinger in 1956. He worked as an art instructor for Art Instruction Schools, along with friend, Charles Schulz, the creator of "Peanuts." Sasseville and Schulz worked together on several comic books including "Peanuts" and "Nancy." A veteran of WWII and Korea, he had a career as a graphic artist with Varian until retirement in 1990. He ordinarily rode his bike to work. Until recently he could recite from memory all of Shakespeare's sonnets. He was predeceased by his wife Helga, his parents, sister Patricia, three brothers, Raymond, John and Joseph, and a niece, Jolie Sasseville. He is survived by nephews, David and Jon Sasseville; Larry, Paul and Robert Van Sickle and nieces Laramie and Andrea Sasseville, Melanie S. Lesh, Nancy Van Sickle and Jean V. Mazgaj. A memorial service for Mr. Sasseville will be held Saturday, Dec. 10, at 2:00 p.m. at the Alta Mesa Memorial Park Chapel, 695 Arastradero Rd., Palo Alto.
