Edmund J. SAULNIER

Edmund J. Saulnier, 90, of Derry, formerly of Salem, died July 28, 2005, at Haven Health Care Center, Derry, following a long period of failing health.Mr. Saulnier was born Aug. 7, 1914, in Methuen, Mass., the son of the late Edmund O. and Robertina (LaJeunesse) Saulnier. At age 4, he was a concert violinist. He graduated from Tenney High School in Methuen.Mr. Saulnier worked as a welder in the Boston shipyards during World War II. He then worked in the Arlington Mills in Lawrence, Mass. He was a resident of Salem from 1947 until 1999, when he moved to Derry.For close to 20 years, he was a poultry farmer. He was a lifetime lover of horses. He retired after working 10 years as a custodian at Salem High School.Mr. Saulnier was a former member of Mary Queen of Peace Parish in Salem, and was a communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Derry.He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Bertha D. (Reissman) Saulnier of Londonderry; three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert E. and Grace of East Kingston; Allan O. and Madeline of Londonderry, and Russell and Vivian of Greenville, S.C.; six grandsons, Robert of Haverhill, Mass., Mark A. and his wife, Vickie, of Wrightsville, N.C., Michael A. and his wife, Donna, of Arlington, Va., Steven M. and his wife, Judith, of Londonderry, David and his wife, Melody, of Hamilton, Mass., and Eric and his wife, Nicole, of Carmel Valley, Calif.; three granddaughters, Karen Cabral and her husband, Manuel, of Pelham, Laura Walker of Londonderry, and Julie Gill and her husband, Brian, of Williamstown, Mass.; 20 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bishop Theophilos of Richford, Vt.; three nieces; and several cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter, Marie D. Saulnier, in 1995.ARRANGEMENTS: Following cremation, visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 4, in the Peabody Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Aug. 5, at 10 a.m. in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Ave., Derry. Burial will be held in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Lowell, Mass., at a later date.
