SPRINGFIELD - Albert Joseph Senecal, 84, a longtime resident of this city, and formerly of Granby, MA, and Holyoke, passed from this life on Sunday December 18th, at the Mercy Medical Center in Springfield. Albert was born May 29, 1921 in Newport, VT to the late Ernest and Louisa (Jacques) Senecal, and was a graduate of Holyoke High School. Mr. Senecal served his country proudly during WWII in the United States Navy. While in the Navy, he earned the WWII Victory Medal, the American Theater Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Medal. Albert worked for Package Machinery in East Longmeadow as a Foreman for 40 years, retiring in 1986. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, golfer, and truly enjoyed taking hikes in the woods. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Mercy Medical Center, and the entire staff at the Pioneer Valley Dialysis for their comfort, compassion and excellent care of Albert. He leaves his beloved wife of 28 years, Germain (Henna) Senecal; his loving children, Ernest Senecal of Northampton, Sandra LeBeau of Granby, MA, and Cheryl Moreau of Holyoke. Albert also leaves his sister, Marie Potvin of Mooseup, CT; 4 devoted grandchildren; 7 cherished great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marjorie (Newell) Senecal, and by his siblings Leo, Lucien, and Jacques Senecal, Martha DeVries, Simone Augustine, Margaret Meadows, Blanche Senecal and Pauline Gosselin. The funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 8:00 a.m. from the Forastiere-Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow, with the Liturgy of Christian Burial to follow at 9:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. The interment will be held at St. Michael's Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 3-7p.m. Donations in memory of Albert may be directed to the charity of one's choice.
