Gaston G. SIROIS

Gaston G. Sirois of Salem, a retired diesel marine engineer and World War II veteran, died Sunday at Salem Hospital after a brief illness. He was 82. A lifelong resident of Salem, Mr. Sirois graduated from Salem High School in 1941. He attended the Franklin Institute and Wentworth Institute, both in Boston. He served in the Navy during World War II, positioned in the European, African and Middle-Eastern areas, and attained the rating of signalman 1st class. He owned and operated the former Boston Diesel Co. in Boston, before working for the former Munro Dry Dock in Chelsea. He was later an employee of the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority, where he worked until his retirement in the mid-1990s. Mr. Sirois was a parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Church in Salem and a life member of the Veraugua Council 76, Knights of Columbus. He was also a former member of the Palmer Cove Yacht Club in Salem and the Gerry Club in Marblehead. Husband of the late Carolyn (Hincman), he is survived by a son, Thomas J. of Cheshire, Conn; three daughters, Maryan M. Mailo and Virginia R. Fournier of Peabody, and Susan C. of Salem; eight grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church, Salem.
