CORINTH -- Miriam Snyder Rivette, 74, of Center Street passed away on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005 at Saratoga Hospital following a short illness. Born on January 28, 1931 in Kingston, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Mary (Vetter) Snyder.Mrs. Rivette completed her undergraduate and graduate degrees at the State University of New York in Plattsburgh. She started her teaching career in Broadalbin, New York. In 1954, she embarked on a 'longtime love affair' with the Corinth Central School system as an elementary school teacher. A dedicated teacher, she was known as a strict disciplinarian with a resounding voice who had a special attraction to 'erasers.' Always commanding respect, she had a knack for turning the little ones' fears into admiration and love by the year's end. Advising extracurricular activities of the school, Mrs. Rivette worked with cheerleaders as well as several classes through the years. Although retired, she continued to be active substituting and serving as 'Madame Ticket Taker' at all the sporting events. A lifetime member of the New York State Teachers Association, she was an active member of NYSUT Retiree Council No. 10, participating in their activities and trips. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church, Greenfield Center.She was especially proud of her membership in the Red Hat Society, participating in two groups: Queen of the Spa in Greenfield and Jessup's Landing in Saratoga. She spent many enjoyable outings with them.Miriam was a caring, generous person who loved her flower garden, the Christmas holidays and found great pleasure remembering her many friends on special occasions in their life.Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Peter Rivette, in 1979, and by her brother William in 2004.She is survived by two sons, Edward Rivette Jr., and his wife, Julie, of Corinth, and Kevin Rivette of Albany; two granddaughters, Charlene of Corinth and Anita of Cave City, Ky; five great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Pat, of Malverne, Long Island; and her ex-husband, Edward Rivette Sr. of Corinth.A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, 200, at the Church of the Immaculate Conception of Corinth, 409 Palmer Ave., Corinth, with the Rev. Charles Gaffigan, pastor, and the Rev. Martin DeRose of St. Joseph's Church of Greenfield Center, co-officiating.A Rite of Committal will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery, Corinth. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Densmore Funeral Home, 7 Sherman Ave., Corinth. The family suggests that memorials take the form of donations to the Corinth Chapter of Dollars for Scholars, P.O. Box 1, Corinth, NY 12822. Following the committal service, the family will receive friends.
