Hazel Carrier was born to Lucien and Minnie Durio Sonnier in Oberlin, La. She was one of nine children in the family. She graduated from Oberlin High School and married Odis Joseph Carrier from Oberlin, La., 1934. She lived in Sulphur, La., for more than fifty years where she worked for a local ladies' boutique known as Etie's. In 1985, after both she and Odis retired, they moved to Port Neches to live near their only son Charles. She died at the age of 95 at La Maison de Famille, a private care home in Groves. Hazel was predeceased by her husband Odis; her father Lucien Sonnier; her mother Minnie Sonnier; her brothers, James and McKinley Sonnier; her sisters, Ella LeBlue, and Ida Ryder . She is survived by her brothers Fred and DeSoto Sonnier of Kinder, and her sister Vena Duplechian of Oberlin. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition, she is survived by her son Charles Carrier and his wife Mary Ann of Port Neches, her grandson Douglas Carrier and his wife Penny of Port Neches, her granddaughter Sharon Molina and her husband Victor of Nederland; her granddaughter Kathryn Runnels and her husband Jarrod of Port Neches. Within her circle of love and concern are included many great grandchildren and step grandchildren: Jace, Sarah, Carli, Courtney, Kaitlen, Andy, Lyndi, Kaylee, Staci, and Kelli. A special thanks is extended from the family to the caretakers of La Maison de Famille, including Juana Cunningham, Juanita Cunningham, Shirley Smith, Verlyn Johnson. The Odyssey Hospice team was most compassionate in the last hours. Drs. Michael McMahon and Penelope Aiken are also commended for their care and concern. Visitation will be held at Broussard's Mortuary in Nederland from 4:30 p.m. unit 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Port Neches at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Burial will be at Oak Bluff Cemetery in Port Neches. Any memorial contributions may be made to the Music Fund of the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 36, Port Neches, TX 77651
