Anna L. THOMAS

SANDWICH - '' Anna L. (Thomas) Caron, 95, died Wednesday at her home. She was the wife of Edgar E. Caron, who died in 1977. Mrs. Caron was born in Sagamore and moved to Barnstable in 1913 after the death of her father. She was educated in Barnstable schools. She was president of the first Barnstable Junior Women's Club and was one of the first telephone operators in Barnstable. She also was secretary to the clerk of the First District Court of Barnstable. In 1934 she moved to Sandwich. She was a communicant of Corpus Christi Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher and member of the choir. She was an expert handcrafter and seamstress, and taught clothing construction through 4-H clubs and the Cape Cod Extension Service. She loved all forms of handcrafting. An avid genealogist and member of the Cape Cod Genealogical Society, Mrs. Caron was a Mayflower descendant of John and Priscilla Alden of Plymouth County. She traced her lineage back almost 1,000 years and aided many others in tracing their own roots. She was a former member of the Sandwich Historical Commission and made many contributions to the Sandwich Archives. Survivors include a son, Gerald E. Caron of Daytona Beach, Fla.; three daughters, Anita L. Bangs and Valerie J. Caron, both of Sandwich, and Janice A. Caron of Pie Town, N.M.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Carol A. and Roger E. Caron. Visitation is 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 154 Route 6A, Sandwich. A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 324 Quaker Meetinghouse Road, East Sandwich, followed by burial in St. Peter's Cemetery in Sandwich.
