JANICE M. POULIN EDGEWATER, Fla./ ESSEX JUNCTION, Vt — Janice M. Poulin, 70, of Edgewater, formerly of Essex Junction, passed away Sunday, Dec. 4, 2005, in Florida Memorial Hospital, Ormond Beach, Fla. Janice was the only daughter of the late H. Russell and Loretta Elaine (Malloy) Ward of Burlington. Janice was born July 23, 1935, in Burlington. She graduated from Cathedral High School in 1953, and the University of Vermont's School of Nursing in 1957. Immediately following graduation, she went to work at the Mary Fletcher Hospital. She worked on Baird 3, the surgical ward, until 1973, when she stopped working to stay home to raise her children. Janice was known to her colleagues and dear friends as “Pixie.“ She returned to work as a nurse at Aesculapius Medical Center in 1979 and remained there until her retirement in December of 1997. She was an active member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Essex Junction from 1973 until she moved to Florida fulltime in June of 2005. For many years, Janice played in numerous bridge leagues throughout the Essex area including various neighborhood bridge groups. She was an active golfer and scored her first hole in one in 2002. She actually met her husband George on the 2nd hole at Rocky Ridge Golf Course in 1970. Janice was preceded in death by her father, H. Russell Ward, in 1952 and her mother, Loretta (Malloy) Ward, in 1977. Survivors include her husband of 34 years, George Poulin, of Edgewater. She also leaves behind her daughter, Leslie S. (Poulin) Bates, and sonin-law, W. David Bates, and granddaughter, Lauren Katherine Bates, of Alpharetta, Ga. She is also survived by her son, Michael J. Poulin, of Edgewater. Janice is survived by her special first cousins and extended family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and nurse. She also held a special place in her heart for the dogs in her life that preceded her: Buffy, Kelli, and Abby. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home, New Smyrna Beach, Fla. A memorial mass will be held at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 4000 South Atlantic Avenue, New Smyrna Beach, Fla. 32169, Saturday, Dec. 10, at 9 a.m. There will be no visiting hours. A memorial Mass celebrating Janice's life will also be held on Friday, Dec. 16, at 11 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 158 West Street, Essex Junction, Vt. 05452. A luncheon will be held immediately following the ceremony in the Parish Hall at Holy Family Catholic Church, 28 Lincoln Street, Essex Junction, Vt. 05452. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations should be made to the Humane Society of the United States, St. Lawrence Catholic Church, or the charity of one's choice. -- EDGEWATER - Janice M. Poulin, 70, of Victory Palm Drive, a retired nurse at Medical Center Hospital of Vermont, Burlington, Vt., died Sunday at Florida Hospital Ormond Memorial. Mrs. Poulin was born in Burlington and moved to the area this year from Essex Junction, Vt. She earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Vermont and was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, New Smyrna Beach. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed golf. Survivors include her husband, George; a son, Michael, Edgewater; a daughter, Leslie Bates, Alpharetta, Ga.; and a granddaughter. Memorial donations may be made to The Southeast Volusia Humane Society, 1200 S. Glencoe Road, New Smyrna Beach, 32168; or to St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 158 West Street, Essex Junction, Vt., 05452.
