LANGLEY, Dr. Hugh G., Dr. Hugh Gregory Langley died peacefully at St. Catharines General Hospital with his wife, Irene, at his side on Thursday, March 11, 2004, in his 79th year. Dearly loved by his wife of 55 years, Irene (Smith) and dear father of John (Susan) of Toronto, Janet (Ted) and Hugh of Kingston, Jean (Tim) of Edmonton and Alison (Bob) of St. Catharines. Beloved grandfather of Andrew, Alie, Jenny, Ian, Laura, Chris, Julia, Elizabeth, Hughie, Annie, Ben, Emma, Willy, Clara, John, Jane t, Andrew and Alana. He is also survived by his sister, Dorothy Joan Harris of Toronto. Predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Leslie, and his brother, Dr. Robert Langley. Hugh was born in 1925 in Kobe, Japan and came to Canada in 1938. He attended St. Catharines Collegiate and Vocational Institute. Fluent in the Japanese language, as an officer in the United States Naval Intelligence during WW2, he served as a translator and an interpreter. He graduated "Summa Cum Laude" in East Asian studies from Harvard University, in 1948. After graduating in medicine in 1956 from Queen's University in Kingston, he practised family medicine in St. Catharines for 35 years. He served as Chief of Staff at Hotel Dieu Hospital for a number of years and was a "l ife member" of the St. Catharines Stamp Club. He was a member of Queen Street Baptist Church for 65 years where he taught Sunday school for 20 years. At Hugh's request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Queen Street Baptist Church in St. Catharines. The family invites friends to meet with them at a reception at the church following the service. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the Queen Street Baptist Church "Out o f the Cold Program", would be appreciated by the family. The family wishes to thank Linda Boivin, his home-care helper, Dr. D. Whitty, Dr. R. Mackett, Donna and the other nurses of the Emergency Department at St. Catharines General Hospital and the v olunteers at Meals on Wheels.
