CÔTÉ-STAIRS (Gourdeau), Suzanne - À Conakry, Guinée, où elle résidait avec deux de ses filles, le samedi 31 janvier 2009, à l'âge de 93 ans, est décédée Madame Suzanne Gourdeau Côté Stairs. Elle était l'épouse en premières noces,pendant 36 ans, de feu Lionel Côté décédé en 1972 et en secondes noces de John Fitzgerald Stairs pendant 25 ans, décédé en 1999. Elle était la fille de Valérie Gosselin et Godfrey Sharples Gourdeau. Elle laisse dans le deuil ses enfants: Suzanne (feu Alexis Reford), Jacques (Donna Flynn), Michel (feu Gillian Angus), Pierre (Deirdre Charenko), Valérie (feu Alain Drouart) et Élizabeth, les enfants de John Stairs : Sonia, Joe et Gavin, ses petits-enfants : feu Michel Gottlieb, Karl-Philippe, Michaela, Stéphane, Nicolas, Philippe, Stephanie, Olivier (Sandra Malenfant), Véronique, Jacinthe (Jean-François Bieler), Gabriel, Chlöé, Elzbieta, Sarah-Maya (Mathieu Cheminée) et Jan, ses arrières-petits-enfants : Maël et Edwin. Elle laisse aussi ses frères : Claude (Lucille), Éric (Monique), feu Godfrey, feu Hubert (feu Marion) et feu Henri, ses soeurs : Thérèse (Marcel Bélanger), Louise (feu William McNamara), feu Isabelle et feu Lucie (feu Magella Cantin), ses belles-soeurs: Louise Méthot Gourdeau, Suzanne Méthot Gourdeau et Charlotte Starkey. Pionnière de son époque, elle avait des amis de tous les âges et cultures; sa curiosité et son énergie ont touché tout ceux qui l'on rencontré, son humanisme et son implication sociale se sont manifestés jusqu'à son dernier séjour ou elle était la marraine du village Cambaya. Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many, Suzanne passed away on January 31, 2009, in her ninety-fourth year in Conakry, Guinee, where she was residing with two of her daughters. Born in Quebec City, on April 6, 1915, the daughter of Valerie Gosselin and Godfrey Sharples Gourdeau, the eldest of ten children. Suzanne was married to her beloved Lionel Cote for thirty-six years, until his death in 1972. She subsequently re-married her devoted second husband, John Fitzgerald Stairs with whom she shared twenty-five happy years, until he passed away in 1999. She leaves behind her children: Suzanne (late Alexis Reford), Jacques (Donna Flynn), Michel (late Gillian Angus), Pierre (Deirdre Charenko), Valerie (late Alain Drouart), and Elizabeth; John's children Sonia, Joe and Gavin Stairs. She was the beloved grandmother of the late Michel Gottlieb, Karl-Philippe, Michaela, Stephane, Nicolas, Philippe, Stephanie, Olivier (Sandra Malenfant), Veronique, Jacinthe (Jean-Francois Bieler), Gabriel, Chloe, Elzbieta, Sarah-Maya (Mathieu Cheminee), and Jan, as well as the loving great-grandmother of Mael and Edwin. Suzanne is also survived by her brothers: Claude (Lucille) and Eric (Monique); her sisters Therese (Marcel Belanger) and Louise (late William McNamara); and her sisters-in-law Louise Methot Gourdeau, Suzanne Methot Gourdeau and Charlotte Starkey. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters: Godfrey, Hubert (late Marion), Henri, Isabelle, Lucie (late Magella Cantin). Suzanne was always ahead of the times and had many friends bridging all generations and cultures. Her curious mind and unique energy inspired everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her exceptional humanism and social awareness touched many throughout her long and productive life, right up to what was going to be her last chapter in West Africa, where she was the well-respected godmother of her African village, Cambaya.
