John C. Cardinal Retired, Ottawa Fire Department John ('Mr. C) passed away following a brief illness at hospital in Napanee on February 13th at the age of 79. He was pre-deceased by his wife Gloria (Bunny). His children are Gerry (Laurie), Lori Forsen, David (Ainslea), Lynne (Randy Rhem) and John (Michelle). His grandchildren are Jessica, Staci, Jackie, Deanna, Mallory and Nolan. Dad was heartbroken by the loss of our mom in 2000. Later that year, he had a severe stroke and things were looking prettygrim. He eventually did recover quite well physically but was very unhappy. In 2002 we convinced him to move from Ottawa to Camden East where he lived across from McCormick's Store. He had lived in Ottawa all his life so this was a huge leap of faith for him. Within days of being here he was starting to meet all sorts of people and was getting a feel for small town life. He had never been a very sociable person and was fairly quiet so when we started spotting him out and about in the village talking and joking with everyone we were quite amazed. Camden East really embraced him and he was having a ball. Shortly after his move he exclaimed. I want to live. His positive attitude and humor were appreciated by many and he made some special friends here. Spontaneous kitchen parties with ZuZana, Jim, Penny and Theo were always lots of fun and he also enjoyed chats with Gwen (Boots) and his neighbor Frank. He hadn't been out of the house much in the past year but prior to that you could usually find him somewhere stirring the pot - at Ric's Chip Truck, McCormick's, the post office or the Bookstore Cafe. He used the fact that he had had a stroke as his excuse when he said anything that was out of line. There are so many who contributed to the joyful life he experienced here. He appreciated all the great interactions he had with people in area stores and restaurants. He felt that his purpose was to help people be happy and that's what he strived for until the end. Even in his weakened condition, he flirted and joked with the fabulous hospital staff. He is now back with the love of his life. It's a good life 11416140
