CURTIN, Lorne Francis - March 30th, 1932 ~ February 14th, 2009 It is with great sorrow that the 5-D's announce the passing of their father at Northumberland Hills Hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer, in his 77th year. He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife Phyllis Elizabeth (Wallis) of 55 years, and his children Deborah Green (Ted), Darrell (Dana), Darlene Racicot (Randy), Derrick (Sandra), and Dee-Anna Lyon (Dale). Predeceased by his father Edward and mother Elizabeth Jane Freeman, brothers Vince, Bert, Leo and Edwin. Survived by his sisters Carmel Perdue (Ed), Noreen Ozarko and brother Don (Anne). A much loved grandfather of Kendall, Sayland, Bronwen, Jayson (April), Lucas (Darlene), Jason (Heather), Becky (Dave), Zachary, Cody, Zefferin, Baillie, Colin and Vanessa. Great grandfather of eight. Born in Lindsay and raised in Downeyville, Ontario, Lorne as a youth left the farm travelling to the big city of Oshawa seeking employment. He married Phyllis in 1954, raising a family of five and retired from General Motors of Oshawa after 31 years of service. Lorne was a lover of country music, the outdoors, the southern sun, and a handyman 'supreme'. He will be remembered for his kind, quiet, gentle manner and a wonderful smile. Lorne will be lovingly remembered by his family and close friends in Ontario and in the 'park' in Silver Springs, Florida. A heartfelt thank-you to the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at Northumberland Hills Hospital for their care and compassion in Lorne's final days. On Thursday, February 19th, at St. Luke's Parish in Downeyville, the family will receive friends and relatives from 10 to 11 a.m., with a funeral mass from 11 a.m. to Noon, followed by a reception. Spring interment in St. Luke's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lorne's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation - Palliative Care, 1000 DePalma Drive, Cobourg, ON K9A 5W6, would be greatly appreciated. 11416294
