CASSIDY, Joseph Elroy December 20, 1919 - February 20, 2009 A gentle man is gone. Our dad, Joe, passed away peacefully at home. He was predeceased by our mom, Carol Christmas Cassidy in 2002. He leaves to mourn his passing, his children - Terry (Shirley), JoAnne (Mike), Denise (Chris), Kim (Dick), and Michael (Linda); his grandchildren Katelyn and Morgan, Terra and Keeley, JJ and Alida, and Neil and Leslie; and his great-grandchildren Regan and Calum. He is also survived by his brothers, Dick and Cyril, and mom's sister Margaret and her husband Bob Leew. A veteran of the RCAF during WWII, dad was very proud of his service with Sqdn 418. Joe was a loyal employee of Eaton's for over thirty years, and a man who made the most of his twenty-seven years of retirement. He was a lifelong learner and an eager participant in a range of activities: square dancing, fishing, golfing, curling, sailing, gardening, gold panning, lapidary, "creative card playing", and travelling. He was a volunteer with the Killarney Swim Club and the 1988 Winter Olympics. We will always remember the times mom and dad dragged their ever reluctant children to Square Dance Jamborees in Penticton or cross country into the wilderness to find the best fishing hole. We will miss his wit and sharp intellect. He would be honoured if you would raise a toast to his memory, preferably a "Rusty Nail", and "purely for medicinal purposes". A small family gathering will be held to honour Joe. If friends so desire, contributions to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta would be greatly appreciated.
