METZNER, Derrick Andrew 2009-03-21 Derrick Andrew Metzner, born July 26, 1974 in Thunder Bay, Ontario, passed away quietly with his mother at his side, at Toronto Western Hospital on Sunday, March 15, 2009 at 1:32 pm. He attended Forest Park School and was a graduate of Hammarskjold High School. He was married on June 29, 2001 at his mother‘s home in Kakabeka Falls. A year later he moved with his wife Renee, to Wawa, where he worked as a mechanic at the Northern Lights Ford Dealership. He was very proud of his job. He attended the Ford Training Centre as well as college, to obtain his full inter-provincial automotive mechanics‘ license, allowing him to work on just about any type of vehicle. Derrick loved fishing and camping and skidooing in winter. He is survived by his mother, Phyllis Garton, his sister, Robin Stout, her husband Steve, and their daughter Serenity, his 16 year old son Jeremy Cassell, his wife Renee and their two daughters, Jolie, 6 years and Rebecca, 19 months. He is also survived by his father, Wolfgang Metzner, with whom he had just resumed a relationship, within the last year. He is also survived by Aunts, Uncles, cousins and his paternal grandmother. Derrick was a friend to everyone who met him and he will always be loved and remembered in our hearts. He is at rest now with his maternal grandparents, Stan and Staffo Garton, who predeceased him in 1977. A memorial service for Derrick will be held on Friday, March 27th, at St. Monica‘s Parish Church, 28 Broadway Avenue, in Wawa, and followed by a luncheon at the Polish Hall.
