After a short illness, Janet Selena Stevenson died January 1, 2009, at the Englehart and District Hospital. She was born in Bowmanville, Ontario, on November 16, 1928 to Peter and Beatrice Martin. She came here in 1932 from Bowmanville and was educated in Brentha. On April 28, 1947 she married Lorne Alexander Stevenson in Englehart. Mrs. Stevenson was a hobby farmer and a homemaker who also worked in janitorial services. Mrs. Stevenson was an avid gardener and also an Avon representative. She loved doing puzzles and knitting and had a very strong Christian faith. She was also a member of the Gospel Hall. Mrs. Stevenson was predeceased by her husband Alex, brother Stanley Martin, daughter Grace Kyseley and grandson Arthur Shortt. She is survived by her brothers Peter (Francis) and Harlan (Francoise) Martin; sisters Lillian Kent (Frank) and Beatrice Ellerton (Don); sons Lorne Stevenson (Pauline), David (Muriel), John (Penny) and Bryan (Patricia); daughters Alice Pesklevy (Ed Cashaback), Nancy Loranger (Gilbert) and Susan Arsenault (Andrew Young); 23 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. The funeral was arranged by McDonald Funeral Home in Englehart. The service was conducted January 6 by Fred Kraus at the Good Shepherd Church. Pallbearers were grandsons George Shortt, Shawn Stevenson, Alex Peters, Randy Loranger, Mykel Arsenault and Cole Stevenson. Honorary pallbearers were Jason Stevenson, Andrew Stevenson, Neil Loranger, Gene Arsenault and Brad Stevenson. Burial will be at Brentha Cemetery. Relatives and friends attending the service from out of town came from Huntsville, Edmonton, Alberta, Toronto, Sudbury and Cochrane. In memory contributions to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Englehart and District Hospital or the Gospel Hall would be appreciated by the family.
