Mr. Wayne Bruce White August 4, 1949 - March 14, 2009 It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Wayne Bruce "Bugsy” White, 59, of Amherst, on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Amherst, he was a son of Inga (Beal) White of Amherst and the late Garnet White. Wayne graduated from Amherst Regional High School and later completed the degree program at Nova Scotia Teachers College in Truro. He was a life long learner and had a strong commitment to education, taking many courses at Mount Allison University as well as Acadia University. Wayne was diverse in his career path teaching Science at Amherst Regional High School for twelve years, three years with Corrections Canada in Social Development, three years with Social Services Department, Amherst, in his last twenty years was spent with in the Justice Department. Volunteering played an important role in his life. He continued to mentor at the Springhill Institution and up until recently was a participant in the chapel music program at Springhill and Westmorland Institution. He was a founding member of the Sports Award Committee. Wayne was a member of the local Black Heritage Group, playing at many functions with in the community. An avid sportsman, Bugsy was involved in Fastball, Ball hockey, Slow- Pitch, Minor Hockey and Coached Little League Baseball as well as the girls high school Softball team. As a Christian he loved the Lord and his involvement with Crossroads Gospel Church played a significant part. He was on the worship team and "Uncle Wayne" especially enjoyed the Children's Ministry. Wayne's love of music extended over his entire lifetime and was a natural entertainer. Wayne was strongly committed to his family. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and he will be dearly missed by his mother Inga White of Amherst; loving wife of 39 years the former Deborah McCarthy, of Amherst; daughters, Allison (Gerald) VandeWiel, Angela (Shane) Cooke both of Amherst and Amy Layne White (David Duizer) of Victoria BC; sister, Betty (Peter) Ripley of Amherst; four grandchildren, Riley, Jagger, Gracie and Bo; godson, Stephen Faulkner of Korea; as well as; special niece and nephew Jay, and Carl; also many aunts and uncles. Besides his father, Garnet, Wayne was predeceased by his infant sister, Carol Anne. A time of Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906). Funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. from First Baptist Church, Amherst with Rev. Mitchell Lewis, Rev. Byron Corkum and Rev. Jeff Goodwin officiating. Interment will follow at a later date in the Amherst Cemetery.
