STEPHENSON, Janet Mary - Born on April 22, 1929 in Toronto, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2004 in Victoria, British Columbia. Predeceased by her parents, Bill and Helen Newton and her sister, Velma McLeod, long-time residents of North Bay. Lovingly remembered by her husband, Bill; son Brice, daughter-in-law, Lorna and grandchildren, Kelsey and Evan of Edmonton; nephews, Tim (Fort Frances), Terry (North Bay); niece, Lesley Anne (Ottawa) and their families, relatives and friends. Mary moved with her family from Toronto to North Bay in 1932, attended elementary and high schools there, then in 1948 entered St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1951, followed with post-grad training at Montreal Sick Children's Hospital and Toronto St. Michael's Hospital, then returned to North Bay, working at various positions in St. Joseph's Hospital for several years. In 1953 she married Bill Stephenson, who worked at The Canadian National Railways regional headquarters in North Bay and they began to "see Canada", living in Capreol, Toronto, North Bay again, Capreol again, Barrie, Toronto again, Edmonton and Vancouver, retiring to Victoria in 1989. Despite persistent medical problems they managed some wonderful continental and overseas travel in the years that followed. The family wish to thank the staff at Glenwarren Central Park Lodge, and Dr. Rob Sealey for their kind and loving care. Private family service at McCall Bros of Victoria, followed by cremation.
