REED, William "Bill" - Of Sylvan Lake, formerly of Red Deer, passed away at the Sylvan Lake Bethany Care Centre on September 24, 2004, at the age of 79 years. Bill was born in Brampton, Ontario on May 7, 1925. By the age of seven, his younger sister had died as well as his father. Bill became the man of the house at a young age. He has fond memories of summers spent at his uncle Archie's apple orchard. His happiest times were with his Aunt Martha, Uncle Jim and cousins Jean and Bruce in Woodstock. Uncle Jim became like a father to Bill and has a special place in his heart. During the war, Bill was in training as a flight navigator just prior to the war ending. He met and married Donna Pearce in Windsor, Ontario in 1950. She was the love of his life and they were together for 54 happy years. They lived in various cities in Ontario before moving to Regina in 1965 and then to Red Deer in 1990 after retiring from Kramer Tractor after more than 25 years. Bill enjoyed volunteering and participating in various clubs. He coached his son's hockey teams and was involved in other sports of his children. His main hobbies were woodworking and model railroads. He belonged to the Toronto, Regina and Red Deer Model Railroad Clubs and was a past president. He also volunteered with the Red Deer Regional Hospital and many years with the PARTY Group (Prevent Alcohol and Risk Trauma in Youth). His best times were with his family and hearing and seeing how all his grandchildren were growing up. Bill was predeceased by his wife, Donna. Lovingly remembered by his two sons; Jim (Montira ) of Sydney, Australia and Randy (Lonnie) of North Bay, Ontario, one daughter, Diane (Don) Fleming of Red Deer, nine grandchildren; Ashley and Carson, William, Arissara and Charlotte, Brooke, Jeff, Mike and Missy. He was predeceased by his parents; William and Euphemia Reed, one sister, Wilma and special sister-in-law, Shirley. A Memorial Service was held at the Red Deer Funeral Home (6150 - 67 Street) on Tuesday, September 28, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Bill Reed may do so to the Alzheimer Society or the P.A.R.T.Y. Group (Red Deer Regional Hospital). A super special thank you to all the great care providers at the Bethany Centre, you brightened his days, and brought out that special smile of his. We are so thankful for all the love and support you provided. Funeral arrangements in care of the Red Deer Funeral Home & Crematorium (403) 347-3319.
