STEELE, Ronald Carter - Passed away after a long and difficult battle with cancer on April 19, 2009. Ron is survived by Therese, his loving wife of 57 years, and four children: Caroll-Ann (Ken) Case and Richard (Nancy) Steele of Montreal, Christine (Barry) Upcott of Cambridge, and Donald (Wanda) Steele of Kingston. He was proud Papa to six grandchildren: Jennifer, Derek, Stephanie, Shannon, Michelle and Anna, and one great- grandchild: Mackenzie. Ron was a Cape Bretoner, born and raised in Sydney Nova Scotia, the son of Frank and Jenny Steele. One of eight children, he is survived by brothers Gerald and George of Sydney and Sarnia, and sisters Bernice and Ann of Halifax and Bridgewater. He had fond memories of his years serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force, and the many friends he made over a subsequent career that led to homes in Montreal, Thunder Bay, Granby, Mississauga, and Cambridge. In retirement he moved to Mountain Grove, where he and Therese kept busy raising chickens and operating first a chip wagon and then a series of craft stores. Ron often referred to those years as the happiest of his life. A move to Kingston brought more friendships, and Ron's family would especially like to thank the neighbours of Gavin Court and Melanie Avenue for their friendship, help, and support in recent years. Ron's 78th birthday, observed on March 17 in the Palliative Care ward of St. Mary's of the Lake Hospital, was truly a celebration where Ron was surrounded by friends, family, and the wonderful staff and volunteers of St. Mary's. At Ron's request, no formal gathering or service will be held. Friends are invited to commemorate his life with a donation to the charity of their choice. 11482713
