Donald Saxon MCCOLL

Mr. Donald Saxon McColl September 9, 1933 - April 27, 2009 - Donald Saxon McColl On April 27, 2009 Don passed away after a prolonged illness in Edmonton with his adoring wife Phyllis (Clark) holding his hand. He was the beloved father of Andrew (Julie) and Bev (William) Winn all of Ontario. Don was the proud grandfather of 8 grandchildren, Brian, Jason, Melissa, Malcolm and Graham McColl; Zachary, Bennett and Lukas Winn. Don is also survived by his siblings Bill (Fran) of BC, Jean (Colin) Campbell, Pat, Kae (Moe) from Ontario, and many nieces and nephews. Don enjoyed several careers as “Cash McColl “with the Royal Bank, as a Senior Civil servant at the Province of Ontario and in retirement, as Santa Claus for charitable institutions. Don and Phyllis moved to Edmonton in 2002 from the Toronto area where Don as an accomplished cook provided stalwart support for Phyllis working at the University of Alberta. Don was an engaged, active listener and conversationalist with everyone he met. To the end, he treated people with interest and respect; he knew all his care givers names, backgrounds and interests. The family would like to express our appreciation towards all the staff at the Good Samaritan Zetter Care Centre, the Grey Nuns hospital, the University hospital for the care and compassion he received. A private celebration of his life will take place at a later date in Ontario. Flowers gratefully declined .Memorial donations would be appreciated directly to the Don McColl Graduate Scholarship at the University of Alberta.
