PEDLAR, Nettie 1916 - 2006 Nettie Pedlar passed away at home on November 8, 2006 at the age of 90 years. She is survived by her children, Georgianna (Doug) McDavid, Dick (Denise) Pedlar, Mary Helen (Bob) Hays; grandchildren, Chris (Jill) McDavid, Alison McDavid, Karly Hays and Michael Hays; and great-granddaughter Brooke McDavid; nieces, Lorraine (Rod) Mohr, Janet (Eugene) Sandahl; nephew Bruce McLellan; brother-in-law Jim McLellan; sister-in-law Mary Pedlar and the Pedlar extended family. Nettie was predeceased by her husband Dr. F.G. Pedlar; her sisters, Helen Sabin and Lillian McLellan; and her infant daughter Winifred. Nettie was born a twin to Helen in Victoria, B.C. on July 13, 1916. In 1918 her mother and father, sister Lill and the twins moved to the farm at Irricana. They learned to make do and "waste not want not" on the farm during the Depression. Education was greatly valued by their Scottish mother and after the death of their father, the family worked hard to make it possible for the twins to attend the University of Alberta. Helen and Nettie graduated with a B.Sc. in Nursing in 1938. During World War II, Nettie served her country overseas in England as a Nursing Sister with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corp. In Holland at the end of the war she met Dr. Fred Pedlar. They were married in 1947 after Nettie completed her Masters of Nursing at Columbia University in New York. Fred and Nettie settled in Olds and raised their family. After many years of active life and community service in Olds they retired to live in Calgary in 1973. They enjoyed spending summers at Sylvan Lake with the family, winters with the snowbirds in California, and extended world travels. After Fred's passing in 1981, Nettie continued to live in Calgary. She enjoyed her move to the Edgemont Retirement Residence in 2000. She actively took part in all of the activities, including twice weekly bridge games. Nettie was always thrilled to spend weekends at Sylvan Lake surrounded by her kids and grandkids. She loved to sit on the deck and admire the birds, the sky and all of life. She had an abiding love for nature and the Rocky Mountains. She was a woman of integrity, grace and dignity. She will be greatly missed by those who loved her sweet smile and charming nature. Memorial Service will be held on Monday, November 13, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. at St. David's United Church, 3303 Capitol Hill Crescent N.W., Calgary.
