Rene Joseph Eugene Cloutier , of Hearst Date of Death: May 15th, 2005 The funeral service for Hearst resident René Joseph Eugène Cloutier, 78, of Edward St. was held May 17, 2005. He died at Notre-Dame Hospital, May 15, following a lengthy illness. Born Feb. 11, 1927, he resided at the Cloutier family farm east of Hallébourg until April 1, 2001 when he moved to Hearst. At the farm he had operated his Cloutier Leather Repair Shop. Described as a jovial, generous, family man of calm demeanour, he was a member of Hearst’s Club soleil des aîné-e-s seniors centre and the Independent Order of Foresters. He enjoyed practical jokes, gardening, reading, socializing, spending time with his grandchildren, walking, animals and nature. Predeceased by his parents, two sisters, a brother and brother-in-law Ken Schwantz of Marathon, he leaves his wife Colette (née Boulay) Cloutier of Hearst, a daughter Ginette (Denis) Cantin of Hearst, and son Michel (Stéphanie) Cloutier of Hallébourg. Also surviving are his sisters Françoise Schwantz of Marathon and Irène (Aimé) Gaudreault of Sault Ste. Marie, brothers Philippe and Paul Cloutier of the Sault, and grandsons Jean-Michel Cantin and Zachary Cloutier. Rev. René Grandmont and Roger Pronovost directed the service at Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption Cathedral. Interment will take place May 28 at Monsignor Grenier Cemetery. Funeral director was the Salon Lafrance Funeral Home. Commemorative donations may be made to the hospital palliative care centre.
